share a common paternal line ancestor who lived around 16 000 BCE (18 000 years ago). Johannes Bureus (Johan Bure) was a Swedish scientist in the fields of antiquity and linguistics and was the teacher of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. He became Sweden's first national antiquarian and first head of the national library. He was also the first to document runes and has been called the father of Swedish grammar. Johannes was also a genealogist and researched the Bure kinship from Northern Sweden. Johannes Bureus was related to Gamle Olof and the Bure kinship on his mother’s side. He documented the family tree and the progenitor who was known as Gamle Olof ("Old Olof") from Bureå, born in the late 14th century. This research has allowed many Swedes to trace their ancestry back to the Bure family in medieval times. Genetic genealogist Peter Sjölund and other researchers in the Bure DNA Project have identified the haplogroup that connects the patrilineal Bure kinship in Sweden. More than 25 male lineages from the progenitor have been verified with DNA.
